Grace Hopper

Today is the anniversary of the birth of Grace Hopper, who among other things is credited with creating COBOL. For those of us with a little age behind us COBOL provided us with many years of programming experience and even now there are billions of lines of COBOL code still running. Even at the back-ends of some of today’s wonderful web based systems. She was an extraordinary woman, she retired from the Navy 3 times and then at nearly 80 years of age finally retired with a rank of Rear Admiral, the oldest woman to have served in the Navy. She had been in the Navy since 1943 when she was 36 years old.   For more information see the WikiPedia link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grace_Hopper
